Why do male hippos kill their babies?

Just think, in a hippopotamus family, a baby hippopotamus is born after 243 days of gestation.  But the more children, the greater the danger.  Son killed by father.  The rest of the family keeps the child on the hill all the time thinking that the father cannot kill his child.  And Dad is always looking for opportunities.  A small chance is enough;  To kill a child with a 1-foot-long sharp tooth in the father's giant face.

But why this atrocity of killing the son at the hands of the father?

The hippopotamus is the third largest land animal.  The weight of this herbivorous animal is 1300-1600 kg.  Each of these groups has up to 8-10 members.  Only one of them is a male member.  All other women members.  The male member never wants to shelter another male in her harem.  Because, he never wants to lose his kingdom.  When a daughter is born in the family, she grows up with absolute compassion.  And the birth of a son means a threat to his kingdom.  So the male member kills the boy as soon as he gets a chance.  However, if the son falls at the feet of the father and submits, then in some cases the father does not kill him.  But always be careful.  If there is a threat to the state, there is no other way but death.

However, other members of the family try to raise the boy in secret.  But that is why you have to be extremely careful 24 hours a day.  At one point when the child turns, he declares rebellion against the father.  Then there is a life-and-death struggle between father and child.  There he took a different opportunity except to die or be defeated and leave the party.  Although this tendency is seen in some other animals in nature, it is most prevalent in hippopotamuses.
